Dudley Young Advisors

What We Do

Young Advisors are paid and trained consultants who work with the Local Athority, PCTs, Police, Neighbourhood Resource Centres, Community Safety Services, Voluntary Sector and other agenices who need consultation from young people or want advice on how to engage Young People more effectively. Our interest is to ensure a safe, active and postive place for Young People to live, learn and grow up in, having a say on what goes on in their community.

Youth Proofing

A skill that Young Advisors gain during training is the ability to 'Youth Proof' documents. These can range from informative leaflets to Government Department White Papers. The overall aim of Youth Proofing is to make a document accessable to all without loosing the quality or accuracy of the original document. When Dudley Young Advisors write reports for organisations after a piece of consultation, it is an automatic response to write the report in a youth friendly way in order for it to be understood by not only the organisation but also general members of the public should they have to or want to read it.

Conferences

Dudley Young Advisors are known across the Borough for helping to plan and run local confereneces. When working with Dudley Children's trust Dudley Young Advisors planned and contributed to each workshop over the course of two days. Currently we are helping to prepare and plan a conference regarding conflict which aims to help reduce conflict levels in Dudley. Young Advisors are trained to run conferences not only at a local level but also nationally. Members of Dudley Young Advisors have delivered at conferences held at the Barbican Theatre, London and the QE2 Conference Centre to help raise awarenss of the importance of young people in decision making processes.

Consultation + Workshops

The most common pieces of work Dudley Young Advisors are commisioned to do is consultation. We have built up a catalogue of contacts that enable us to consult with people effectively and in a more time managed way. When asked to consult with young people in our local area we generally organise workshops in order for each participant to get their point of view heard and listened to in a more young person orientated environment.

A Voice for Young People

Our main aim as Young Advisors is to get Young Peoples voices heard locally and nationally. Dudley Young Advisors are fortunate to be in contact with government at a local and national level due to the Youth Advisory panel with Hazel Blears. Councillors and important decision makers within Dudley and its partner agencies know of, and are aware of Young Advisors positivity, professionalism and success and therefore listen to what we have to say and take on board our opinions and ideas that will affect Young People in Dudley.
