Young Advisors

Dudley Young Advisors

Case Studies

North Priory Project

This work was completed along with Neighbourhood management and the housing department. We worked with a group of young people over a period of 2 weeks in order for them to create a memory book of their homes that were in the process of phased demolition.

The young peole, young advisors and the delegates at the final meeting all enjoyed this piece of work, and it still remains one of our best pieces to date.

Every Child Matters DVD

Dudley Young Advisors were commisioned by Childrens Servies in Dudley to make a DVD introducing Every Child Matters to the community, which would then be Youth Proofed in order for it to be accessable to all.

In doing this we worked with many youth groups in our local area, building up a strong relationship with them in order for them to assist in future work. We filmed it all ourselves and edited it. In order to get a professional feel for the DVD it was sent off to be 'sharpened up' by professional editors. This was a great success!

Your Voice Matters Conference

Dudley Young Advisors were asked to help with the research behind the 2008-2010 Dudley Children and Young Peoples plan. We helped to run workshops over a two day period for young people aged 11-19.

There we gained insight into what young people want and need in their local community covering issues such as, leisure, transport and finance. All of their views were expressed through the art mediums of Dance Drama and Music.

Empowering Workshops and Report

Dudley Young Advisors worked alonglide DOSTI, and helped to write a report on empowerment and inclusion accross the borough. Young Advisors consulted with young peole and asked question about how they felt individually and as part of a group.

This report is still in progress.

CfED Conference

Dudley Young Advisors assisted CfED (Centre for Equality and Diversity) to organise and run a conference on Conflict called 'Street War' 'Peace Out.' This Conference has gone ahead and from this we have found out more about knife crime and how it affects young people. Moreover, we heard statisitics that illustrated this perfectly and therefore hope to use these opinions and help in tackling this global issue on a local level.

A report is still to follow.

Take Over Day

Both Rachael and Linden were involved in Take over day. Linden took over the job of Assistant Director of Childrens Services, Ian McGuff. and Rachael took over The Chief Executive of Black Country Connexions, Ian-Cruise-Taylor. Both enjoyed the day and gained insight about being in an executive role and the responsibilities that go with that.
